Research/Career Interests
I work for IWS as a Predator Biologist within the Predator Research and Ecosystem Management project on San Clemente Island. Our primary objective is controlling invasive predator populations, managing the risks native predators pose to endemic fauna, and monitoring the abundance of common prey species on the island. Secondarily, we assist all other IWS crews on San Clemente Island as needed. This diverse work experience includes nursing sick and injured island foxes back to health, deploying nest cameras within seabird nesting habitat, repairing or maintaining various vehicles and facilities, and much more.
Before IWS, I had spent multiple seasons at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory in Gothic, Colorado first as a plant biologist studying the effects of road dust on Scarlet gilia (Ipomopsis aggregata), then as a small mammal biologist studying activity budgets of the Golden-mantled ground squirrel (Callospermophilus lateralis). Most recently, I worked as the Coordinator for Camp Wildlife which is a youth shooting sports summer camp offered through Clemson University, where I led a staff of eight counselors to oversee the custodial care of 50 youths per week. With these experiences, I have truly recognized my passion for mammal biology and look forward to building upon my diverse skillset with IWS.
