Wildlife Biologist

I'm the one on top, about to put a data logger (which will record incubation data and temperatures) into an Andean solitaire nest.

Career Interests

I have been working with IWS on the San Clemente Loggerhead Shrike project since January 2011.  I am part of the monitoring crew, which involves surveying for banded and unbanded shrikes, nest-searching, banding nestlings, and trapping adults for banding.  Before joining IWS, I worked for Ventana Wildlife Society assisting in their management of the Big Sur flock of California Condors.  I then spent a season as a research assistant in the Sierra Nevadas on a project studying the evolution of social behavior in Belding’s ground squirrels.  Just prior to my arrival on San Clemente Island, I worked as a research assistant on a project comparing avian reproductive biology along an elevational gradient in the Peruvian Andes.

I really enjoy field work and the opportunity to meet others with an appreciation for nature.  I love working with the shrikes and am excited to be working for a project with a conservation component to it.
