Andres Hayes

Wildlife Biologist

Education:

B.Sc. Degree in Fisheries and Wildlife, University of Nebraska, Lincoln - 2024

Research/Interests:

I joined IWS in January 2024 as a technician on the Modoc Plateau Puma Project and since finishing my undergraduate degree in December 2024 I have returned as the field supervisor for the project. My duties involve setting bait sites, monitoring collared animal movements, deploying and monitoring camera traps, investigating kill sites, and capturing mountain lions to deploy GPS collars.

Before joining IWS I gained a variety of wildlife experience in the Zambezi Delta of Mozambique. I worked on various conservation initiatives including a lion and cheetah reintroduction, a community beekeeping project, anti-poaching operations and collaring/monitoring campaigns for a variety of different species.

I grew up between Córdoba, Argentina and Kearney, Nebraska, where I developed a deep appreciation for the outdoors and wildlife. While my work focuses on mountain lions, I am also fascinated by bees. Working with both apex predators and pollinators has been a privilege, deepening my understanding of ecology and passion for conservation.
