Research/Career Interests

I am a seasonal technician for the San Clemente Loggerhead Shrike Monitoring and Release program. My job on island is to assist the full-time staff through the breeding season of the shrikes on the island, monitoring nesting pairs and taking on any role they need to promote the wellness of the population.

I have always had a grand reverence for the wild world I am a part of. Growing up in Wisconsin on the words of Aldo Leopold in the shadow of his shack sparked a curiosity for the natural world that has grown to a raging passion. For most of my professional career, that passion has been directed towards birds. It has led me all over the country, from harsh frozen winters in North Dakota to gentle summer morning In West Virginia, and I have found beauty and jubilation all over the place. And now that journey has led me to San Clemente Island.

Coming to San Clemente Island and working so close with such a rare and wonderful bird is made all the better by the rare and wonderful people I get to work around. I treasure every moment and plan to take the skills I learn here and apply them to my future endeavors and hopefully make some long and lasting friendships as well.
