Andres Hayes

Wildlife Technician

Education:

B.A. - Fisheries and Wildlife at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (in progress)

Research/Interests:

I joined IWS in January 2024 as a mountain lion research technician for the Modoc Plateau Puma Project. My duties involve setting bait sites, monitoring collared animal movements, deploying and monitoring camera traps, assisting with captures to deploy GPS collars, and investigating kill sites.

Before joining IWS, I gained wildlife experience working in the Zambezi Delta of Mozambique, in South Eastern Africa. I worked on various conservation initiatives including a lion and cheetah reintroduction, a community beekeeping project, anti-poaching operations, and collaring campaigns for a variety of different species.

I am currently working on my bachelor’s degree in Fisheries and Wildlife at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where I am also a research technician in the honeybee/native bee lab. I am fascinated by lions and bees and consider it a privilege to work closely with these amazing species, and contribute to their conservation.
